About Us
Founded in 2019, the Institute of Global Health, Inc. is a non-governmental organization based in Tallahassee, Florida. We are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of vulnerable populations and have programs in 7 countries throughout Africa. Our programs are designed to promote equity, sustainability, and community empowerment. We work in partnership with local organizations, governments, and stakeholders to ensure that our programs are culturally sensitive, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of the communities we serve.
Meet Our Director
Yussif Dokurugu, DrPH
As Founder and Director of the Institute of Global Health (IGH), Dr. Yussif Dokurugu leads the organization’s operations, programs, and activities across multiple locations. He is responsible for strategic planning and management of a comprehensive development program, including identifying, cultivating, and soliciting fundraising prospects. Dr. Dokurugu also oversees the direction, planning, organization, and supervision of IGH’s operations in various sites across Africa.
He previously served as a high school Earth and Space Science teacher at Rickards High School, an Instructor in the Sociology and Criminal Justice Department, and an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), College of Pharmacy. He also holds an Honorary Associate Professorship at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) located in Durban, South Africa.
With over twenty years of experience, he has successfully led students, faculty, staff, and community members for international research and cultural immersion trips throughout Asia, Europe, and Africa.
A global citizen at heart, Dr. Dokurugu is fluent in eight languages and is a dedicated and passionate advocate for the empowerment of individuals worldwide, particularly through the advancement of health and education initiatives.

Food Delivery
We offer a convenient and reliable food drop-off service to individuals and families who cannot afford to buy food or do not have access to transportation. Our team of volunteers works tirelessly to source and pack nutritious food, and then delivers them directly to the doorsteps of those in need. We are committed to ensuring that no one goes hungry, and we believe that by providing healthy and delicious food options, we can make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.
Medical Transportation
Our free service is dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to quality medical care. We provide transportation to medical appointments for individuals who are unable to drive or do not have access to reliable transportation. Additionally, our team of healthcare professionals and volunteers work closely with clients to identify their medical needs and help connect them with the appropriate care providers. We understand the importance of timely and effective medical care, and our goal is to remove any barriers that may prevent individuals from accessing the care they need. Our commitment to compassionate and personalized care has made us a trusted resource for individuals and families in our community.
Education
Our programs are designed to supplement and reinforce the core curriculum taught in schools, providing a structured and supportive environment for children to learn and grow. Our team of experienced and dedicated educators use a variety of teaching methods and resources to engage students and foster a love of learning. We offer personalized attention to each child, focusing on their individual strengths and weaknesses to create a customized learning plan that meets their unique needs. Our goal is to instill a love of learning that will continue to benefit students throughout their academic careers and beyond.
